economy and the obama administration, the nation's jobless rate fell to 7.7% in november as employers added 146,000 new jobs. the jobless rate hasn't been this low during the entire obama administration, but that's only part of the story. a closer look also shows a big reason behind today's drop in the unemployment rate is that 350,000 people dropped out of the work force in november. they're discouraged, many of them are, that they simply quit and they're trying to find work. christine romans joins us from new york. we saw the unexpected drop in the unemployment rate, but christine, take us a little behind the numbers that make up the headlines. >> 7.7% is that unemployment rate, the lowest since december, 2008, from before the president took office. 146,000 jobs created, twice what economists have been expecting. they really didn't see the pull back because of hiring being depressed because of hurricane sandy. maybe you'll see some of that in the next month, but this was a strong report on its surface. digging in the numbers. look at the right side on that graphic, 14.4% underemploy

i can remember, i guess it was back in the early administration of obama, when he identified 17 areas in the united states that would be appropriate for incarcerating terrorists, that we would take out of gitmo. and one of those places happened to be fort sill in my state of oklahoma. i went down to fort sill. i looked at the facility that we had that was housed within fort sill facility. and there was a lady there whose name was sergeant major carter. i can remember when she came up to me, she said, senator, why in the world -- go back and tell these people back there that they don't understand what is going on. this is coming from a sergeant major. she happened to be a black lady. she had been down there for some sometime. she said go back and tell them that i had two tours in gitmo. there's no place that's more humane, there is no place taking care of them, no place where you can secure the area so that you protect our prison guards like gitmo. she even went on to say one of the biggest problems we had with the inmates in gitmo was an overweight problem because they're eating bette

i think one of the lessons that the president learned early on during the first part of his administration is i think somebody else in the "washington post" might have said it when they said he's not going to negotiate with himself any longer. the nicer gentler barak obama who did closed-door negotiations who was always greeted by members of congress with obstructionism that is gone with the majority of americans voting for him. he came out and said give me a proposal. if you want to limit tax deductions tell me what it is you want to limit. if you want to reduce entitlements, tell me how we're going to do that. if we're going to raise taxes or cut spending, tell me how we're going to do this because i've got the american public on my side. >> jennifer: i totally agree with that. i hear he's not cutting enough in this proposal, but in the last campaign he was cutting too much, oh my god. shouldn't the republicans in congress be called out on that hypocrisy, at least by the main treatment media? >> one of the things that think they're going to be cognitive of, they don't have time to change
